Rust! (never buy a car with metallic paint!)

Problem: Spunky has been rusty from when I bought it.... Normal VW primer and coat couldn't really stop the rust.

A special treatment "POR-15" was quite effective.
I used the following workflow:
If you are careful with the temperature and the timing, you can do the first step i 1 day.

step1:
grind all the rusty places with an electric tool.
clean with "marine clean" mixed 1:1 with water.
clean with water.
treat with "metal ready", keeping the spots wetted with it for 15-20 min.
clean with water.
dry thoroughly!! with hot air.
paint with POR-15 in thin layers. 2 or 3 layers. Wait 2½ to 3 hours until it is exactly "nearly dry" before applying next layer.
Wait until it is exactly "nearly dry", then paint with your (in my case VW green metallic) normal car paint.
Apply 1 or 2 more paint layers, after first is quite dry (is very fast in case of "cellulose based" paint).

step2:
In case of metallic paint, it has to be coated with a transparent paint in order to be airtight.
You should do that the next day when the normal paint is totally dry, otherwise the paint will dissolve a bit.

There is more info and pictures I could put here, but I didn't have time.
Send me a mail, and I will prioritize to put it on the net!
